Star Thrower Educational Multimedia, known by its acronym STEM (which is much easier to say), focuses on education and scientific research in the areas of biology, natural history, marine ecology and environmental issues. SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH conducted by STEM focuses on the application of GIS technology, remote sensing, SCUBA diving and field work to study giant kelp (Macrocystis pyrifera) distribution dynamics and persistence; and to conduct biogeographical studies of marine and terrestrial species on islands. His research interests also include factors influencing the establishment of marine reserves and other protected areas in temperate and tropical environments.
