Cephalopods of Southern California

Available Now

Cephalopods, or "head footed animals," are molluscs with advanced brains and nervous systems. They include the squids, which have ten tentacles placing them in the Decapoda, and the octopus, which have eight tentacles placing them in the Octopoda. Due to their advanced nervous systems and high intelligence, this group exhibits some of the most interesting behavior of any invertebrate group. This makes them very interesting subjects for video-based presentations.

This single disc DVD set introduces the viewer to the natural history of the common cephalopod species in southern California. It is 44 minutes long, covering this interesting group in two separate 22-minute episodes. You will observe market squid mating and laying their eggs off southern California, as well as two spot octopus tearing prey such as crabs apart to munch on and indulging in a little reproductive activity. Yes, that's right... all the "violins" and "sax" you could ask for!

The DVD is $25 plus $2.19 sales tax (8.75%) if shipped to a California address. Due to the USPS's new rates, postage via first class mail is $2.50. Other options include USPS Priority Mail.
